Home-to-Home Adoption

Almost Home is a small, in-home bird rescue. We are the only option for birds that are lost, abandoned, or with life-threatening illness or injury. Due to the sheer number of birds in need, we offer Home-to-Home adoption facilitation so that pets can be rehomed safely without waiting for space at the rescue.

The bird stays with its family until a new home is found.

Almost Home gathers info

We gather information about the bird from its owners to share with applicants.

Almost Home processes applications

We review applications and identify the best fit for the bird.

Qualified homes are connected

Approved homes are connected directly to the bird's current owner.

Owner coordinates the rehoming

The current owner coordinates the rehoming logistics with the approved adopter.

  • This service is available to Connecticut residents only.
  • Almost Home does not assess these birds for temperament, sexing, or condition.
  • Transport and veterinary care are not provided.
  • Adopters must complete and pass Almost Home's application process.
  • This form of assistance is provided as a courtesy; liability is between the current and new owner only.
